I have discovered a few things recently.
1) Spoken word has quite a lot of power behind it.
2) Peace comes in many forms, in many shapes and in many sizes. This is also true of happiness.
3) You can invite into your dwelling place feelings as well as energies and beings.
4) Music is a conduit for quite a few things.
1) Spoken word has quite a lot of power behind it.
I realized this in many ways. If you look at the post below titled "respect" you will see the very beginnings of this realization. My points therein are still valid, but this was my first clue, since I spoke the prayer aloud. Every time I have repeated that prayer or something similar to it I have gotten what I wanted. Also, I have noticed, that a spell that I performed for two people that should have taken longer than it did was sped up by my added verbage.
I believe the phrase "Say what you mean and mean what you say" comes in handy here. And of course the Rede and the golden rule, but I have also noticed that the more I mean what I say - and just how badly I want it - seem to speed things along accordingly.
2) Peace comes in many forms, in many shapes and in many sizes. This is also true of happiness.
I am starting to find little bits and pieces of peace everywhere now. Laying in my bed and reading a book, lighting a candle and dancing for my goddess, snuggling with my High Priest or even just looking into his eyes, and -gasp- interacting with my parents has suddenly become a lot easier. I do not know if this is because of so me change within me or some higher awareness or just having trained myself to chill out more often, but I'm not spazzing out as often, if at all during any given week.
I am also generally happier. I still have my moments of self-loathing, grief and the occasional angst, but they are becoming more infrequent. I find myself smiling more, and laughing more freely. It makes me wonder what has changed within me or the environment, or even my interactions with it, that has had a positive effect on my life. Perhaps it is the fact that my room is 100x cleaner than it used to be, and therefore good energy can flow through the room, or perhaps it is the fact that my mother and I are generally on decent terms about 95% of the time now. Once I figure it out I'll let you know.
3) You can invite into your dwelling place feelings as well as energies and beings.
I was given an old three-ringed binder from a Christian friend of mine who no longer needed it. It was gray and had clear plastic over it that created pockets for pieces of paper. That clear plastic had white lettering on it spelling out "Serenity" with the Japanese / Chinese symbols for it beneath the English lettering. The binder itself was falling apart so I took the clear plastic and cut it off, cut around said lettering and symbols, and taped the two copies that I got out of it over both entrances to my room - the door and the window. Ever since I forgot about their existence there has been very nearly nothing but peace in my room! and even in the rest of the house!
As I placed these simple tokens on the portals to my room, I said a very small bit of verbage asking whomever was willing to oblige for peace and serenity in my room and life. and, here it is! (hey wait - perhaps that act begot point number two?! Must investigate further.) I was aware of being able to invite being such as fairies and spirits into your dwelling place, and even energies to a degree, but I was not aware of the ability to invite raw emotion into a room. I will DEFINITELY be experimenting with this soon! I am hoping to be able to invite joy and other positive emotions into my general area once this ability is honed. And hey - since I can invite things in - I think I can also push things out. I'm definitely not getting rid of my serenity though - serenity is too close to the word sanity for my tastes (both start with an S, and end with -nity - the only difference is the guts of the word!) and I think that removing one will beget the absence of the other. I've certainly noticed it in the past.
4) Music is a conduit for quite a few things.
On par with inviting happiness or peace into the room, I've noticed that music can really change the energy in the room. To me, it is a raw material containing so many possibilities it's not even funny - similar to dirt. Look at how many things we can grow in it! How many things we can build out of it, even if it may require the addition or subtraction of an element or two! And how many children love to play in the dirt and mud? Quite a few.
Music holds quite a few things: raw emotion. The artist or mixer had to put a little bit of himself or herself into the piece when writing/mixing it... otherwise, how would such emotion come to be? We can create emotions to a certain extent, but is much easier to leech emotion from someone else than to create it yourself. An emotion is so very easily taken from most pieces of music that it -must- have had some emotional input from the creator. Whatever was put into that piece will radiate through the room and affect the mood of everyone present, young or old. and if you're attuned to it, it'll affect you sooner than most.
it also holds pure energy. This is easily created, from my experience. Granted, I've noticed that not a lot of people can do that... just create energy out of pure air. (by all technicality, energy isn't created if you look at it through physics, but you get my point. Not many people can tap into energy that easily.) For some reason, I am gifted with this uncanny ability. I've not perfected it, but when I can't tap into energy in most other places, music always does the job. ALWAYS. I have never put on a piece of music and not been able to take energy from the air it travels through. (Again, looking through physics, since it travels -through- air it has to distort or move the air in some way shape or form, therefore exciting the air and giving it energy. Much like a turtle moving through water will create ripples behind it.)
It holds imagery too! At least for me, anyway. Take a listen to this link: -Glorious Morning- Waterflame You'll see what I"m talking about. I get very vivid images when listening to this song. Let me know what you think, and what you see, in the comments if you've got the time. ^^
Well, I'm off for the night. Blessed Be!

Respect.
So I learned something new today. Even the gods want respect.
I was outside smoking and thinking to myself, and hoping the rain didn't get any harder. I said a small prayer to the rain, storm, and water gods asking for the rain to not get any harder. I ended the prayer with so mote it be, and then continued thinking to myself.
The thoughts were "Well, hopefully it doesn't get any harder. I actually hope it stops raining so I can smoke in peace. They'll do it, because I asked. ... no, wait. I they aren't obligated to do anything. I can express my hopes, dreams, fears and desires, but they are not obligated by any means to make them happen. No, they don't have to do anything that they don't want to."
And y'know what happened? I was rewarded for that small bit of respect.
The rain didn't stop, but it got a lot lighter. I could hear and smell the rain around me, but none of it was falling on me. I took off the hood of my coat and stuck my hand out to feel if there was any rain, even though I could hear and smell the rain around me, and not a single drop landed on me or my cigarette.
Even the gods want respect, and they showed it by thanking me for said respect.
Perhaps I am rambling a little too much because I am slightly inebreated, but my point still remains! If we all gave each other basic respect there would be no cause, nor any need, for hate or disrespect to be generated. Because that's what sparks all hate, other than adverse circumstances.
I love the fact that they responded... not only because it helped me, but because it shows me that my gods are indeed there, and they do indeed listen to me. If they do that for me out of respect for me, a goddess but a lesser one, then I can give that back to them as well. Easily.
Respect is earned, however each person should show at least a basic respect for all life. If you do not give respect first, then you will not receive respect. Everyone deserves at least a little, even if it is just recognizing the fact that this person or thing is alive and has needs and wants. Whatever respect, or lack thereof, is given after that is up to the person and circumstances involved.
Well, I'm going to go do something else, and hopefully edit out all the ranty/rambly bits out later.
Blessed Be,
SNT

Love and Hate
I have come to the realization that love is infinite, and hate is not.
Hate, being a negative emotion and energy, must be generated from some source within the person or thing radiating the hate. Love, on the other hand, is everywhere. It is a positive emotion and energy, and has no bounds.
I say it has no bounds because if we look at this logically rather than theologically, there are couples who stay together forever. My grandparents on my mother's side, for example. They married right out of high school and were married until my grandfather died. Grandma is not looking to date anybody else, because her love for him is still present and very strong. She continues to generate it. When a person dies, usually the hate a person is generating will slope off and eventually die as the hater goes through life having no more contact with the person who died.
Also, if you strip away the emotional aspects of those two words, and even the words themselves, what are you left with? Positive and negative. In my experience, positive energy is very easily pulled from your surroundings for anything you need it for - be it keeping you awake, magickal workings, healing, or any number of other reasons. Negative energy, however, is very hard to come by, and even if you find a large deposit of it somewhere you won't be able to pull it from said deposit easily. It just will not budge without a LOT of persuasion. (I know, I tried.)
Why is that, do you think? The only logical conclusion I can draw is that there is an abundance of positive energy and a shortage of negative energy in our natural environment. (yes, we are a part of that.) If there were no hate, there would be peace... because that is the natural state of the world. Peace is also attributed as a positive thing. Nobody and nothing likes holding on to negative energies - it breaks down whatever it touches, leaving the container it was in with smoldering holes in the mind and body. in nature, sufficient amounts of negative energy can kill plants. (granted this is a HUGE amount we're talking about here, but it's true.) that same amount of positive energy will act like miracle grow to the same plant.
emotions = energy created from the heart itself. The mind can start, stop, stimulate or depress the creation of said emotion, but it is created at the heart. If we are part of our environment, then we'd react the same way to positive and negative energies. Nobody is angry all the time - our natural state is a state of peace. Look at relationships - a relationship filled with hate, even if only on one side of the equation, is doomed to fail. A relationship filled with love will last lifetimes. And I'm not talking just about romantic love - even the love we have for our friends, our family, and our acquaintances. There is always something in everybody to admire or cherish. NOBODY is completely worthless or a waste of space. So why hate on one another? Why say those mean, negative things? Try loving on them instead and see what happens. I'm almost willing to bet that you'll receive love in return.

I has a podcast!
The title says it all!
The podcast is an attempt to further my studies in the craft, and if anybody wants to listen in on what i'm learning they can! I'm rather excited to see how things turn out.
I'll be posting my stuff on Podcast Ally, as well as iTunes and PodBean. The links to Podcast Ally and PodBean will be put in the "my other stuff" page.
Anyway, This post will also serve as the show-notes! So if you've listened to my first podcast and want to leave a comment or get in touch with me, go right ahead.

Welcome to the Tiger Stripes podcast, This is your hostess Sasha Nichole Thomas. Please note that this podcast is just my opinion. If you don’t agree with me, terrific! You’re entitled to your opinion just as much as everybody else is. If you have questions or comments you can find my contact info at the end of the show. Please note that rude or obnoxious behavior is not acceptable. If you have something mean to say, please make it constructive. Thanks!
So, this is my first podcast ever! I suppose that warrants a bit about me and why I’m doing this podcast. Well, I go by many names but here I’ll call myself Sasha. I am a 24 year old Wiccan that is relatively new to the path and to podcasting, so this should be quite interesting!
As for why I’m doing this podcast, I was inspired by other podcasters out there such as Brook from the Ipod witch and Tahleah from Geek Witch. I hope that this will help others as well as me grow in the craft.
I plan on doing an herb segment, as well as a brief history of a god or goddess, starting with my goddess, Bast, and alternating between god and goddess with each podcast. I’ll call it the divinity segment.
DIVINITY SEGMENT
Bast (also known as Bastet) has been dated back to at least the Second Dynasty, circa 2890 BCE. So she has existed for a little under five mellinea. Her most common depictions were a beautiful woman with either the head of a cat, lion, or large desert cat. She was never shown fully human except in one Ramesside depiction where she was made one in the same with Mut, being called Mut-Bast.
She was only associated with the domestic cat about two thousand years after her worship began. This is probably how she’s best known, but her depiction as a lion or desert cat didn’t go away when her domesticated image came into being.
I mentioned earlier that she was also known as “Bastet.” This is a common mistranslation of her name. Foreign influences started changing the spoken language, dropping the ‘t’ sound off of many words, and thus scribes started adding additional T’s to written language to stress that it should be pronounced.
She is one of the many gods who are known as the “Eye of Ra.” It is a title that denotes a god who functions as a protector or avenger. She is definitely not an always-content, always happy goddess. One text even has her ripping out the hearts of transgressors, and delivering them to her father and the king. Her protective nature is found in the hundreds of shields unearthed in excavations. Her avenging nature was softened by her association with het-hert and Mut. Even when the Greeks came to Egypt, however, they chose to associate Bast with Artemis, the virgin huntress of the Greek pantheon. Bast was exclusively a solar goddess until the Graeco-Roman influence hit Egypt; then, because of her association with Artemis, she became lunar.
As the eye of ra and the punisher of the enemies of Ma’at, Bast is invested with the cat’s grace, strength, speed, and cruelty. She encapsulates the charm, patience, and wile of a domestic cat, as well as the potential for the raw brute strength of a lion.
Myths about Bast include: She is the goddess of lesbians, sexuality, pleasure (including illicit drugs), That bast and Sekhmet created the world together, Isis is Bast’s mother, and that Bast and Sekhmet were sisters.
Most of Bast’s worshipers during that time period would offer cool water in her worship, but now that we have more things accessible to us we can offer her many different things. Some suggestions would be whole meats, chocolate, limes, or perfumes. Organic things are preferred because they will more than likely have undergone minimal processing and have pesticides or growth hormones. But like all worship, it’s the sentiment that counts. Don’t offer something large and impressive in terms of the value of the item itself without actually wanting to give it. Also, never let an offering go to waste. Yes, you can offer chocolate and eat it too.
All of the preceding information was taken from www. per dash bast dot org. Give them a look when you get the chance for more detailed information than what I’ve stated here.
HERB SEGMENT
I wanted to do something that most people already knew a little bit about, but perhaps would want to know more about, so I chose Aloe for my herb today. It’s not an herb per say, but it is a rather remarkable plant!
Aloe Vera, also known as barbados aloe, burn plant, aloe barbadensis and medicine plant, is what just about everyone uses to put on sunburns and sometimes minor cuts. But did you know that it can be used for so much more than just sunburns?
There are over 240 different species of Aloe, growing mainly in the dry regions of Africa, Asia, Europe, and America, but for today’s segment we’re going to talk about Aloe Vera.
Aloe has incredible healing properties because it is rich in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that are essential to the body. Some of these include vitamins A, C and E, Selenium, magnesium, copper, zinc and more. Aloe is a natural pain reliever because it contains Salicylic acid and Magnesium, is wonderful at anti-inflamitory work because of Gibberelins and Lectins, has antiseptic properties due to the Saponins it contains, and has loads of antioxidants.
Ingesting Aloe Vera is said to promote dental health and hygiene, aid in healthy digestion, support the immune system and help regulate weight and energy levels. Add to that the amazing number of vitamins, minerals and amino acids you get from the plant and it makes me wonder why I haven’t started this sooner! I found some very interesting looking recepies using Aloe by googling the phrase Cooking with Aloe.
Magickally, Aloe is used for protection and luck spells. It is said to guard against negative influences and prevent household accidents, particularly if grown in or near the kitchen. It is also said to prevent feelings of loneliness, so if you’re feeling lonely you can cuddle your favorite Aloe plant! It can also be used to bring you success in the world. Aloe is typically associated with the feminine, the moon, and water.
Here’s an interesting tidbit of information for ya: After using the gel from an aloe leaf, said leaf will seal itself up, making it easy to store for later use.
So that’s the end of the podcast!

Energy
Working with energy can be a daunting thing. It is something that one cannot see, and it does not have a physical form so one cannot touch it in the normal sense. However, it is like air - it is everywhere around us, flowing in and out of us, without many even knowing that it's going on.
Have you ever noticed a time when you were tired, but then you heard a particular song or set of songs and you were not tired or hyper? That is because your body took energy from it's environment without consulting you first. Tricky little things, aren't they?
Everything has energy. What kind of energy is another matter altogether, but everything has energy. Even if you want to get scientific about it, energy can be given or taken from atoms by moving electrons closer or father away from the nucleus.
Music falls under the category of "everything" by simply existing. Music carries energy! If you feel tired, put on some of your favorite music and just listen. I recommend something that is fast-paced, but that's what works best for me. Genre's like techno and pop appeal to me in that sense, and it's just good music. As for artists, I'd point you toward Ke$ha, Cascada, and Subsonik.
If you're outside and have no access to music you can draw from your surroundings, too! Focus on your breathing. Breathe in fresh, positive energy, and exhale negative energy. Imagine it filling your lungs and being distributed through your body via your circulatory system. Works for me! Or if you are near a tree, place your hand on it and focus on your breathing again. As you breathe in, picture positive energy flowing into you through your hand, up your arm, and to your heart, where your circulation takes over from there. When you go to exhale, keep the negative energies going out of your respiratory system. Nobody likes having negativity directed toward them, and trees are living beings - they are no exception to that statement.
I will note, however, that I have had no formal training in a recognized coven at all. I was in one while I lived in Oklahoma, however they loved to throw negative energy at people and were very consequence-oriented. I would consider 95% of what we did dark magick. If something doesn't seem right to you, don't use it and PLEASE inform me so I can change it. I don't want anyone hurt by any action or word of mine.
Blessed be,
Sasha NT

Blessed be,

How I worship and protect
Title says it...
So, I worship by doing one of several things... I sing and/or dance for my goddess, Bast (also known as Bastet) with bells on my ankles and wrists... I pray to her... I'll dedicate something to her, be it water, chocolate, a candle, etc and then use it in her honor (This sometimes includes consuming the items in question, should they be edible, or giving them to somebody who -will- consume them, as waste is never a good thing) ... Sometimes when I make jewelry for myself or my god to wear, I'll make it by moonlight so she can see what I'm doing and, if she likes it, bestow it with her energy. (it's worked so far!)
That's how I worship my goddess, who is ethereal. My god, on the other hand... very, very physical. His name is Loki, and he is my boyfriend. (WARNING: if you are not mature enough to handle anything sexual in any way, shape or form without snickering like a childish pervert, you shouldn't be here ya creeper!) So, I worship him in all sorts of ways... there's the obvious way of worship, which is sex.... and then I'll share energies with him - loving, caring, all of those sorts of energies, as well as general positive (and he shares with me in return, yay!) ... I make jewelry for him sometimes... hold him, hug him, kiss him, hold his hand... run my fingers up and down his skin... light a candle for him... every once in a blue moon I'll anoint him....and I speak my heart to him every time we're with each other (Read: I tell him how much I love and adore him, how lucky I am to have him, pay him compliments for any of several reasons, etc etc) ... I can't wait until we draw the god and goddess down. That's gonna be a fun experience. =)
ok, as far as protective things, this is what I've found so far that works:
1) Imagining oneself surrounded in blinding white light is absolutely amazing for when you're frightened or under psychic attack. It really helps me feel at-ease and comforted.
2) Dome-o-mirrors! Imagine a dome around you, from about a foot above your head to the ground. I often combine this with the blinding white light, putting this one up first and letting the light not only blind others, but intensify upon itself through the mirrors. (I have them facing both outward and inward; reflect negative energies outward, reflect positive energies inward to help both my overall well being and feed the blinding white light that leaks from between the mirrors.)
3) Angel wings! This one really helps me when I'm depressed. I feel safe, secure, and loved inside of those protective wings when everything else fails. Like I'm being held close by my god, who always makes me feel the same way with just his arms. Pretty amazing, if you ask me.
4) Amulets galore! I don't carry many of them. In fact, there's really only two that I wear on a daily basis, and that's my equal-armed cross around my neck and my 'meow' centerpiece on my bracelet. The latter of the two is charged with my goddess' protective energies and moonrays so I will never walk into anything blindly, and my equal-armed cross is charged with energy from my god. Those energies are for protection, and love. He stored a little bit of his love energy inside just for when I'm not feeling so hot or my complex is playing tricks with me again. Pretty sweet! Other amulets I have include a cross made for me by hand by a now deceased woman who was Russian Orthodox (may she rest in peace) ... it has power, mostly, but a little bit of protection. I have another necklace, one that has the symbol for "tiger", which is my chinese zodiac as well as one of my protectors... it holds courage, hope, a feeling of being self-sufficient, and just that tiny bit of protection... and a giant amethyst nugget that can be carried in my pocket. That serves as a container for any sort of energy is put into it, be it moonbeams, courage, protection, or just general purpose for a pick-me-up later.
Have anything to add or have something for me to try out? Toss me a comment and I'll take a look at it!
